บทคัดย่อ

การพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของประเทศไทย ในช่วงระยะเวลากว่า 30 ปีที่ผ่านมา ได้ส่งผลกระทบทางลบหลายประการ ที่ทำให้เกิดปัญหาและสร้างความเปราะบางต่อสถาบันครอบครัวไทย โดยเฉพาะการดำเนินชีวิตและความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างสมาชิกในครอบครัว

อย่างไรก็ตาม พบว่าปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นในครอบครัวไทยปัจจุบัน ส่วนหนึ่งเกิดจากค่านิยมและการประพฤติปฏิบัติบางประการ ที่มีการสืบทอดกันมาจากคนรุ่นหนึ่งสู่อีกรุ่นหนึ่ง ค่านิยมที่เห็นชัดเจนก็คือการยกให้ชายเป็นใหญ่กว่าหญิง ยอมรับให้ชายสามารถใช้ชีวิตอย่างเป็นอิสระ และมีบทบาทส่วนร่วมในกิจกรรมประจำวันของครอบครัวน้อยเกินไป เหล่านี้ทำให้ชายสร้างปัญหาครอบครัวในรูปแบบต่างๆ อาทิ การดื่มเหล้า เจ้าชู้ การเที่ยวโสเภณี มีภรรยาน้อย การทุบตีหรือทำร้ายสมาชิกครอบครัว การหย่าร้าง หรือทอดทิ้งครอบครัว

แนวทางและมาตรการที่จะทำให้ชายได้มีบทบาทและความรับผิดชอบต่อครอบครัวมากขึ้น เป็นเรื่องที่ได้รับความสนใจในการประชุมระดับนานาชาติ ทุกฝ่ายยอมรับว่าการที่จะทำให้ค่านิยมที่ไม่พึงปรารถนาหลายประการ มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงได้ จำเป็นที่จะต้องเริ่มแก้ไขจากภายในครอบครัวก่อน ควรมีการปรับปรุงแก้ไขหลักสูตรการเรียนการอบรมในทุกระดับที่ไม่เน้น การแบ่งแยกความรับผิดชอบหลายๆ ด้านระหว่างชายและหญิง กิจกรรมในชุมชนจะต้องจัดให้มีขึ้น เพื่อเสริมการอบรมที่เกิดขึ้นในบ้านและในโรงเรียน การปรับเปลี่ยนนโยบายและแนวปฏิบัติระดับชาติที่แสดงให้เห็นว่าชายและหญิงสำคัญทัดเทียมกันเพราะขึ้นอยู่กับความสามารถ มิใช่ขึ้นอยู่กับเพศ สุดท้ายก็คือ ควรให้มีการทำวิจัยศึกษาทั้งทัศนคติและพฤติกรรมของชาย ที่มีต่อครอบครัวและชีวิตสมรสเพื่อวางแนวทางจัดกิจกรรมที่เหมาะสมให้ชายมีส่วนร่วมในครอบครัวมากขึ้น

 Male’s Role and Family Problems in Modern Thai Society

Abstract

For about 3 decades, socio-economic development in Thailand aiming toward industrialization and urbanization has brought about some negative impacts on the family including changes in lifestyle and weakening family relations.

However, it is evident that problems in the Thai family are party contributed by values and practices regarding gender relations. Values which place men in the more superior position and double standard practices in the Thai Society allow them to behave in such a way that family stability could be disrupted. Many of men’s behavior are considered to be major causes of family problems in modern Thai society. They include drinking, frequent prostituting, promiscuity, wife of child beating, family desertion. The breaking up of family has much implications for social and psychological problem which cannot be simply ignored.

Various approaches and measures are recommended at the international meetings to promote more male’s responsibilities and greater participation in marriage and family life. It is agreed that family should be the first and best place to make changes in gender inequality values and practices. Young boys and male adolescents and parenthood. These kinds of training could be integrated in school, out-school curriculum, and community activities. At the national level, programmes and policies directed at equal gender relations should be strengthened. Research on male’s attitudes and behavior regarding marriage and family life should be more often conducted for purpose of policy formulation.
