Treatment of mania with valproate Lithium is the gold standard drug in the treatment of bipolar disorder for both acute and prophylactic treatment. Unfortunately, not all patients respond to lithium and lithium itself has some limitations. Other drugs are considered in this condition. This article reviews related articles on clinical aspect of valproate in the treatment of bipolar disorder regarding drug efficacy, drug administration, treatment guidelines and common side effects.
